Trees and Hedges Create Traffic Hazards in Athens
In Athens trees and shrubs at intersections block drivers vision and push safety officials to balance beautification with road safety. City can request owners to prune or remove hazards, or declare nuisances, but residents fear loss of greenery while drivers contend with limited sight lines near E State Shannon and S Shannon. Extreme caution remains the practical but imperfect remedy with zoning laws restricting new plantings near intersections. The weather noted: 74 high Tuesday, 73 at 11 a.m. Wednesday, 50 as overnight low.
