Odd social octopus defies norms with mating and life cycle
Washington reports on a newly described octopus species, Larger Pacific Striped Octopus, found near Panama. Unlike common octopuses, pairs share dens to mate for days, females reproduce continuously, and individuals show complex social behavior and learning. Researchers Caldwell Ross and colleagues publish findings in PLOS One, noting striking color changes and intelligent responses to humans and foods.
