The House Ways and Means Committee backed an income tax rate cut proposed by the Treasury. The plan would lower rates to a 14 to 70 percent range from the current 20 to 91 percent, with action expected by early September. In New Delhi, a dynamite blast at a police storage dump in Assam State killed 32 people.

Wehring, questioned again at the Greenhills police station, had previously undergone a six hour polygraph inquiry with inconclusive results.
At Fort Monmouth New Jersey Army officers confirmed Joseph Valachi a 60 year old former mobster lies under heavy guard in a secret hideout. He has been informing Justice Department agents for over a year about the nation’s crime syndicate while facing a potential underworld hit.
Mrs. John F. Kennedy, holding the President's hand, leaves Otis Air Force Base hospital for a waiting car and helicopter pad. The President assists her into the car as she wears a long hairdo unlike her usual bouffant style.
Former President Harry S. Truman will deliver the main address at a September 14 dinner honoring Senator Stephen M. Young in Cleveland. Howard M. Metzenbaum, dinner committee chairman, announced the event which is expected to host about 1500 guests.
Miss America Jacqueline Mayer of Sandusky will visit Nelsonville as part of the eight day pageant events ending with a parade and appearance at the Old Timers baseball game. She planned to spend Aug. 25 in Nelsonville, attending church, a parade with multiple groups, and a welcome at the ball diamond before leaving at 4 p.m.
Franklin, principal at Point Pleasant High School, denies a published report that he did not recommend hiring the athletic director and staff. He says in July he recommended rehiring Robert Shertzer and assistant coaches Richard Horton Jack Rogers and Virgil Burris. Contracts remain pending before Mason County Board of Education.
Wilbur B. Wood director of the Ohio Agricultural Extension Service resigns to begin a two year educational assignment in India October 1. He leads an Ohio State University team under a university contract with the U S Agency for International Development and the government of India.
Fort Benning awarded its contracting undertaking services to a Columbus Negro firm but the Army allows families of deceased personnel to use segregated funeral homes if they choose. Reimbursement will occur for the allowed amount when using another undertaker.
Senate hearings pressed for proof that the limited nuclear test ban treaty would not block anti missile development. AEC Chairman Glenn Seaborg testified as McNamara said underground testing could advance the program. Goldwater urged ironclad assurance the treaty would not inhibit missile work.
James H Meredith completes his Ole Miss coursework and will receive a BA in political science on Sunday in a grove near the campus. The ceremony recalls September rioting when two died and federal troops restored order, while Governor Barnett seeks to delay the degree over alleged violations of university rules.

Hospital president Henry Ewing described efforts since 1961 to create a joint medical staff between osteopaths and doctors, including private outreach and a committee, while denying authority to surrender the facility.
Virginia Governor Albertis S. Harrison Jr. announced with the DOJ and local leaders the creation of a bi racial body to operate private free schools in Prince Edward County this year. About 1700 Black students formerly without classroom training since the county closed public schools four years ago will be served, along with white children who may attend. Foundations and individuals have signaled support as private schools resume after the 1959 order to integrate led to ongoing closures. White children attend private schools still.
Police patrolled a Chicago South Side Negro area after school integration pickets pelted officers with bricks stones and concrete chunks. Four policemen and one woman were injured with one officer struck on the forehead reported in fair condition.
