Police and troops seized control of streetcar barns ending a three day transport strike in Lodz. About 40 workers were arrested amid clashes. authorities claim 80 percent of the 9000 workers returned by noon. A mixed government union commission will hear grievances Friday as wage fears cited.
Two GOP senators said action on a House approved postal rate bill will wait until next year as adjournment nears. The measure would raise first class letters to 4 cents an ounce and airmail to 7 cents, with broader increases to lift postal revenues by about 272 million dollars annually. Some Democrats want passage to aid a federal pay raise, while Eisenhower opposes broad federal pay hikes now. The House earlier approved the rate increase 236 to 129.
Insurgent milk producers in Chicago area threaten a strike. Ohio Dairy Farmers Bargaining Association rallies support in northeast Ohio as a strike deadline looms. In Wellington Lorain County about 250 farmers voted nearly unanimously to withhold milk from the Cleveland market.

Two Omaha teens complete a 374 mile bicycle trek to Tulsa in 54 hours to win a $15 bet with their grandmother. John Sanko, 17, retires the bike after finishing Tuesday and transfers it to Tulsa cousins while Frank Sanko, 15, rests from the exhausting ride. They will travel home by automobile.

AFL-CIO Executive Council plans to complete action on charges of corrupt influences against the Teamsters before the union's convention. Final hearings are set for Sept. 5 and 6 in Washington with a report to be delivered Sept. 23 or 24, leading to a verdict before the Sept. 30 Miami Beach gathering. The outcome may include recommendations on steps the Teamsters must take to remain in the AFL CIO.
The House Military Operations subcommittee found Robert Tripp Ross not responsible for any wrongful act related to military contracts to a family firm during his time as assistant secretary of defense.
