Eugene Glaspell 30, of Logan Route 1, drowned at Bell's Landing in the Ohio River during a swimming party about 8 05 p m. The death marks a second drowning in the Glaspell family, a brother 14 died at Lake Hope three years ago. Firemen reported conflicting accounts of how the accident occurred, with some saying a hole from a gravel dredge caused him to sink, others that he lost hold of a log. Glaspell had lived in Vienna only about three weeks and worked for Ankrom Construction Co in Parkersburg. He served in the Army as a staff sergeant overseas for three years.
