Pelicans Face Bleak Future Off California Coasts
California officials report some improvement in brown pelican births but warn the species remains threatened. Observers counted 7 chicks this spring at Anacapa Island, far below the 800 to 1000 typical, with nests showing broken thin eggshells blamed on DDT.
