John Bergwardt age 23 confessed to killing his mother-in-law Ruth Cranston 47 as she read in bed at her Knox Township home Col umbian a County. He said motive was revenge after she alienated his wife Evelyn Mae Cranston 20 who divorced him in 1936.
Wellington residents maintain 30 year opposition to partisan primaries. In a town of 2599, only nine voted as no candidates appeared on the ticket. A non partisan primary caucus will nominate all city officers in a few weeks.
Police book two men at City Jail over a whiskey bottle thrown from the gallery at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. The bottle injured Chico Marx and splintered glass hit Ruby Keeler and Jolson, who shouted a challenge to the gallery but caused no further violence.
