Early unofficial results show Cady with a slight edge for sheriff and Cooper leading in the governor race. Ohio issues rise as four states vote. Pomerene leads Allen while Donahey and Cooper sit ahead in initial counts.
Four states held primaries with Prohibition and Klan influence shaping races. In Ohio Atlee Pomerene led Florence Allen for the Democratic U S Senate nomination while Frank B Willis and A V Donahey led their fields. Alabama featured Bibb Graves and Hugo Black backed by the Klan. Arkansas saw John E Martineau leading Tom Terrall in the Democratic governor race with anti-saloon ties. Nebraska centered on local issues with Adam McMullen in the Republican hunt and Charles Bryan unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
Biologists and theologians weigh possible impact on Christian teaching as Doctors Serge and George Voronoff conduct experiments to obtain biologically human offspring from a female chimpanzee. Dr George Voronoff says a month may pass before any statement, and he plans to travel to Paris to consult his brother.

A resolution urged all 50 000 members to start active outreach for total abstinence.
Ohio Mine Workers president Lee Hall prepares a confidential reply to the Ohio Coal Operators association proposal for a joint August 24 meeting on a wage scale to reopen idled mines. Operators formed a new league and consider talks with miners as Ohio mines remain largely closed.
In Logan on August 11, Thad Brown led the Republican ticket in Hocking County with 612 votes, Cooper 350, Lieber 310. James Mills tops lieutenant governor with 572 votes, Joseph Cross leads secretary of state with 626, Bert Buckley 315 for state treasurer, Turner 399 for attorney general, Willis 6338 for senator, Hildebrant 314 for the same, and Jones and Matthias top state supreme court. LeFever 568 for state senator, Mooney 818 for representative, Briley 379. Sheriff race: Lloyd 838, Steward 554. In Congress Underwood 1380, Radcliff 324. Democratic county race: Acker 614 for representative, Beachout 543, Gabriel 513. Common Pleas: Sparnow 789, Pettit 547, McBroom 6423. Sheriff Cook 952, Cross 731, Mast 211. Matthias nominated for treasurer 924 to 66 percent for Frank. City zoning amendment defeated four to one, Barrett Republican nominee to face Underwood with 936 votes.
Washington August 11 Politicians focused on the Wisconsin primary to be held September 7 where the old La Follette organization may influence the national party. The race pits Irvin Lenroot against James G Blaine for the Republican Senate nomination seen as effectively deciding the election.
Myers Y Cooper the Ohio governor nominee and Dr K Mardis the Athens county representative nominee both won Tuesday primary votes. Cooper did not carry Athens county while Mardis led by a solid majority. L Crary Davis won the Meigs county prosecuting attorney nomination. he led as special prosecutor in the Willis Hill murder cases.
Columbus voters rejected the city planning amendment in yesterday's primary by a decisive margin. Unofficial returns show cities favored the amendment while smaller towns and rural areas opposed it strongly. The measure would have let cities assess the entire cost of acquiring property for municipal improvements against the bonded levy.
Dayton report states Lieutenant E H Barkesdale a premier U S air service flyer died when a test plane went into a tailspin just outside Dayton He attempted to bail with a parachute but it was caught by the falling craft and he was hurled 150 feet.
Senator William E. Borah Republican Idaho told United Press cancellation of foreign debts owed to the United States cannot be based on debtor demands but only if it aids real reconstruction of Europe and disarmament and peace. Officials in Washington echoed the finding after Clemenceau's letter to President Coolidge.
Governor Donahey and Chicago investigator Roach met Canton authorities and attorney Pontius to question two Canton prisoners. They aim to uncover Canton's underworld links and identify Mellett's killer, stating the crime’s solution is possible and not an impossibility.
Tabulation was slow as voters weighed a tight sheriff race between J. M. Cady and W. E. Moier amid long ballots. Early unofficial results showed Cady narrowly ahead with 2,189 to Moler 2,183, while other county and state races shifted votes across precincts and prompted talk of a possible recount.

Other winners included Tom Jones for representative, J M McCullough for county commissioner, Freda Radford for recorder, T W Bengal for clerk, J F Hartenbach for treasurer, and Ben Ewing for coroner.
The Athens county Democratic slate nominated incumbents and hopefuls. Donahey led county tickets with 812 votes, while Sandies trailed with 90. Voters backed Johnson for county treasurer, Bloom for lieutenant governor, Pomerone for U S senator, and Allen for judge with varying small margins.
The roadster owned by C. H. Ruble, Preston store manager at Nelsonville, was badly damaged when struck by an Athens Nelsonville interurban at Courtney hill crossing. Ruble stopped the car and flagged the street car, but its wheels skidded and could not stop.
Richard Seaman 21 son of Mr and Mrs William Seaman died at 3 AM at the family home on Stewart Street after a lingering illness dating from last December following an influenza related operation in a Columbus hospital. Funeral services set for 2 30 PM Friday at the Church of God with Rev G C Johnson officiating. Burial in West Union Street Cemetery. He was a 1925 Athens High School graduate. He leaves his parents and a 13 year old brother Edward.
