Removal Of 42 Names May Kill Local Option

A drive led by the Athens tavern owners association has reportedly removed 42 signatures from the local option petition, potentially blocking its November ballot placement. The board needs about 60 signatures to qualify, and the petition originally carried at least 15 percent of last governor election voters. The petition for Pcts 1 and 2 Ward 2, filed by Erle Bridgewater Jr for John W. Galbreath, listed 100 signatures. The county election board plans to meet Monday noon to act on the matter.
