Ohio Power plans 10.8 million Racine dam powerhouse
Ohio Power Co has applied to the Federal Power Commission for a license to build and operate a 40 000 kilowatt hydroelectric powerhouse at the Racine Dam on the Ohio River. The $10 875 000 project includes two 20 000 kilowatt units, a 69 000 volt transmission line, and public recreation facilities nearby. The powerhouse would be on the Ohio side with a 100 foot intake excavated 350 feet into the river bank. The facility aims to run about 87 percent of the time. Preliminary permits for feasibility studies were active from Dec 1 1966 to July 31 1969.
