Clive D. Gaston, 71, longtime advertising executive and 50 year Times-Star staff member, died Wednesday from a heart condition. Born near Tranquility in Adams County, he built a career shaping local news and advertising.
Robert W. Briggs a 12 year old boy son of Mr and Mrs Preston Briggs of New Boston drowned Wednesday in Millbrooke Lake near his home in Portsmouth Ohio authorities said.
Members of the Illahee Farm Woman's Club and guests joined a Wednesday picnic at the home of Mrs. C. P. Sout in Stoutland Farm Ben Lombond. A business meeting followed led by vice president Mrs. John Gill in Mrs. Garland Bostic's absence. Attendees included the Mohrs Gill Blains Archer and others.
Mr and Mrs J W West and relatives held a West family reunion at Townhouse Grove with many members attending. Eddie Dearth underwent surgery at White Cross Hospital Columbus and is reported in good condition. Rev H A Lockwood and others visited him. Mrs Glenn Harkins underwent surgery at Sheltering Arms Hospital. The Dearth family hosted guests including Rev and Mrs Lockwood and many others from New Albany Jacksonville Paul Daugherty Maude Pearse and Coe Dearth New Marshfield. Pvt Lincoln Dearth of Indiantown Gap Pa was granted 14 day leave to return home due to his father Eddie Dearth illness.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Rupe and children of Bloomfield spent a day with Mrs Ella LaRue and son. Wanda Jean Ina Louise and Artie and Arthur Rupe Jr visited Dayton. Grace Lemley and Clara J Miller returned to Sylvania Point Pleasant after vacation. Several attended the funeral of Vina Abies at Old Ruger Church. Arthur Rupe and Docie Rose attended the golden wedding of Oscar Rupe at Eno. Clyde Davis and family visited Ohley relatives. Ella LaRue reports a new refrigerator.

They will appear at Oak Ridge Manor in Burlington, Moosalaki Inn, and The Stonehurst in the White Mountains, marking their second East tour. After engagements they plan a three week trip including New York City.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Plants, 65, were held at 2 p.m. at Mohr-Arnett Funeral Home. She died Wednesday morning at a daughter’s home in Huntington. Rev. J. P. Keefer officiated. burial followed in Lone Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers were Carl Simpkins, Rodney Wamsley, Floyd Taylor, George Randolph, Russell McDaniel, and Charles Swisher.
Mason County farm youth show general committee meets Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. W C Roberts, county agricultural agent and committee chairman, will preside.
In Point Pleasant a joint Rotary Club and Lions Club meeting featured a steak fry at Harmon Park followed by a softball game won by the Rotary team 21 to 8.
