The Senate unanimously approved a pay raise covering most service members except recruits, apprentice seamen, and those with under two years of service. The plan would add about 1.23 billion dollars annually, starting Oct. 1, with House action imminent and hopes for no conference.
Atty. Gen. William Saxbe announced 19 part time assistant attorneys general who handle drive point system cases will be cut from payroll September 1. A new law shifts prosecution of drivers with 12 moving violations to county prosecutors effective August 26, saving about $60,000 annually and transferring roughly 250 pending cases to local prosecutors.
State Sen. C. Stanley Mechem told the York Nelsonville Republican Club he will seek election to the new combined 9 14th and 15 16th district when eligible. He noted reapportionment forces his earliest exit from the four year term and praised Governor Rhodes for cost cutting while acknowledging voter sentiment.
Mrs. James D. Pearson 32 of Parkersburg West Virginia died in a collision seven miles south of Marietta Tuesday night. Her three daughters Debbie 10 Lee Ann 5 were injured and admitted to a Marietta Hospital.
Moscow radio reports the 19th unmanned cosmos satellite is transmitting scientific data. It was launched Tuesday and orbits from 167 to 332 miles high.

In South Viet Nam central highlands a Montagnard hamlet was raided by Communist guerrillas capturing 91 tribesmen. Twenty returned, seven houses burned, 41 water buffalo seized. Government says planes killed 40 guerrillas in a delta attack. U S officials not confirmed. Separate items note unemployment claims drop and Westinghouse contract talks begin.
William L. Shirer spoke to about 2000 at Ohio University on the nuclear test ban. He called the pact a first step toward complete disarmament and warned that a 60 second nuclear war could erase global power. He credited Kennedy and noted Khrushchev may have acted to avert war over Cuba. Germany’s role as a peace key was highlighted and a continued arms presence was warned.
Mrs. John F. Kennedy, expectant of a third child, is admitted to Otis Air Force Base hospital near Hyannis Massachusetts. President Kennedy flies to Cape Cod to be with her as the third child was not due until late this month.
The Rev Francis E. Jolliff of Daytona succeeds the Rev Malcolm Mac Donald of Bellefontaine as president of the Ohio State Church of God Camp Meeting Association. Pope Paul VI holds general audience at Castel Gandolfo with about 3000 attendees.
Haitian president Francois Duvalier moved at least 150 soldiers by air from Port au Prince to the Cap Haitien area as rebel forces led by Gen. Leon Cantave push two columns toward the north coast. Up to 500 invaders, aided by deserters, advance after halting to assault Cap Haitien. Reports say a separate rebel force may have landed at St. Marc. The OAS opened an inquiry into claims of Dominican involvement.
Workers have begun constructing housing settlements for Skopje refugees after a deadly July earthquake that killed over 1000. The camps aim to house about 12,000 people before year end as Belgrade plans a new site for the city. A lighter quake near Sarajevo was felt with no damage.
Beverly Hills reports Mercedes Douglas 46 married Robert Eichholz 52 in Washington DC area after filing for divorce July 31. On Monday Justice William O Douglas, 64, wed Joan Martin, 23, in Buffalo. The marriages follow long association and prior spouse’s 30 year union with him.
