Chancellor Von Hertling disclosed new peace terms to Right in the Reichstag. Germany would spare Belgium only after indemnities are paid and prewar conditions are restored, including recognition of German sovereignty, removal of Alsace Lorraine claims, and intact Austro-Hungarian borders.
British counter attacks southwest of Morlancourt regain key positions and take prisoners. Allied forces report repulsed German assaults on La Grange Farm near Vesle river, captured Siry-Salogne station, and held gains around Montdidier with 100 prisoners taken east of Braisne.
Front reports enfilading artillery hits on German positions along the Aisne Vesse line west of Rheims. More than half the enemy line between the Vesse and the Aisne reportedly exposed to flanking fire as of this afternoon. Subscriptions: renewals due to avoid loss of copies and ensure delivery.
Washington August 7 The War Department released casualty lists from Franco American operations listing 5716 total. Army casualties include 63 killed in action 7 wounded 1 died of accident 388 severely wounded 63 wounded deg bearing. 1038 missing. Marines report 51 killed in action 2 wounded 33 missing. Notable names include P J Hall and J Kochi among the wounded. Murray City and Long Bottom Ohio are named in the Marine casualties.
American forces in France report heavy German artillery action for the first time since the Marne retreat. The Americans hold the southern part of Fismes while sniping is cleared in house-to-house fighting.
Henry James Harris and Gus Lofberg, dredge workers for Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co, were rescued from a scow marooned 3,000 feet above Niagara Falls. They were hauled ashore by breeches buoy from the Electrical Development Co plant roof after a tow line broke near the upper rapids. Both men collapsed but were not in critical condition.
The body of O. C. Roberts of Hobart Oklahoma will arrive in Athens Thursday at 12:50 on the east bound B and O train. He is accompanied by his sisters Louise and Pearl and representatives of the K of P pledge of Hobart and Hobart bank of which he was a director. Interment is planned at Chauncey likely Friday.

Two others named Ray Strickler of Coolville and Clem Albert Rogers of Millfield were reported to have left yesterday for Syracuse New York as limited service men but did not go. Edgar Schultz of Albany and Carl Wood of Hollister are called to go on Thursday in their stead.
Merchants may sell sugar only to parties with Food Committee cards for canning or household use or to those directed to other merchants. Some merchants lack sugar, and cards may be issued to different merchants by the Athens County Food Committee.
Amos F. Woodard, long patient at the State Hospital for two years, died yesterday from heart trouble. Newsom-Walburn to ship the body at noon to Nelsonville. Funeral time pending.
Mr and Mrs J H Dowler of New Ice cream are testing a miniature refrigerating plant that uses compressed carbonic acid gas. The Dowlers and their children spent yesterday with the device on Church street.

About 100 physicians from Athens Washington Noble Vinton Hocking and Gallia counties gathered at Grove near Chive for the Athens County Medical Society meeting. Dr Clark of Columbus explained government needs for medical service in war work and outlined two eligible groups for military or emergency duties. A follow up meeting will be held at Dr T A Copeland’s office Friday evening to refine county plans. A basket dinner marked the day.
Mrs Christina Thornton aged 59 widow died early this morning at 2 o clock. She made her home with L Woodyard at Vore Ridge. The funeral may be held on Friday.
