A two day blaze at the American Distilling Co. plant in Pekin Illinois killed six people and injured 33. The fire destroyed four and damaged three of the distillery's 15 buildings but spared core units, power plant and bottling lines. About 600 workers to be recalled as production resumes by Monday with losses reportedly insured.
Sheriff George Bateman faced a TB dilemma surrounding William H. Kirkpatrick 51 accused of murdering his wife Anita 38. Kirkpatrick who has confessed is at Lima State Hospital before trial. jail conditions endanger other prisoners as health officials weigh transfer to a hospital. No trial date set though mid-September discussed. doctors called his TB advanced.
A blaze erupted yesterday in the living room of Mrs. C. G. Grote's residence in Monterey Park California. Three fire trucks responded along with a police car and city officials including the public safety director city manager and budget officer. Damage estimated at about 1100 dollars.

Baltimore County Police reported the theft of six thousand dynamite caps from a builder’s shed on the northeast ledge of Baltimore. The loss was described as extremely dangerous.

A passenger car and a pickup truck collided at a highway junction near Meade Kansas last night killing eight people and injuring two. The fatalities were Mr and Mrs Gene Elliott and their two children and Mr and Mrs Boyd Boyer and their two children all of Plains Kansas. Two men in the truck were seriously injured.
Temperatures will average two to four degrees below normal with a normal high of 83 to 87 and a low of 63 to 65. The weekend will be cool and below normal with gradual warming Monday to Wednesday. Scattered showers are likely near the Ohio River late tonight and across the state Tuesday. Showers expected to average one quarter inch or less.
