Ohio Communist chairman Gus Hall surrendered to authorities in Cleveland after a federal indictment broadening a plot to overthrow the government. Hall, 37, was bonded at 5000 dollars and due for a hearing in New York. he disputed the charges as wartime hysteria.

A plane crash near Cortez Colorado injured three people including pilot John H Wallace 21 his wife Doris 23 and Colorado man Raymond Hunt. They were en route from Midland Texas to Delta Colorado when the crash occurred. Wallace suffered severe lacerations and shock Doris Wallace had a broken neck and Hunt endured serious internal injuries.
A Columbus Ohio pilot named David Van Ornum was rescued from the Delaware River after his small plane ran out of gasoline and made a forced water landing. The plane sank, but Van Ornum was picked up unharmed by crew members aboard the anchored oil tanker Merry Queen.
The United States accused Russia of seeking strict Danube control, arguing the Soviet proposal would bar ships of all nations. Ambassador Cavendish Cannon urged protection for non Communist trade and said the U S would introduce a draft convention to replace the 1921 Paris agreement.

Authorities sought a man near Canton for questioning in the shooting death of Hiram Berlin a 54 year old tavern operator found shot four times in the back seat of his sedan near the Blue Tearoom Tavern. Police noted $370 in a pocket and possible robbery motive while fingerprints in the car did not belong to Berlin or his business partner Mrs Helen Nelson. Coroner ruled the death a homicide.

Lonnie Steele aged 48 died yesterday after an electrical shock while repairing a milk cooler on his farm on East Pike near Route 40. Emergency responders found him unresponsive. the accident occurred Monday morning. Authorities investigate the cause and safety lapses.

Edward E. Potts 21, missing since June 2 from the University of Rochester, was found at Lackland Field Texas serving in the U.S. Air Force. His father Dr Willis J Potts of Oak Park Illinois says the youth may have exhausted himself and left without explanation.
