Two Syracuse youths, Frank Crewe aged 17 and Charles Gibbs aged 16, located a small .25 calibre Colt automatic believed to be the murder weapon in the John O'Brien case. The discovery came as about 20 boys joined a search in a hollow behind the Lisle boarding house in Syracuse Meigs County after Deputy Sheriff B. C. Day offered a reward.

Deputy Sheriff Charles Evans recovered gun parts and a barrel and two minor pieces remain missing. Prosecuting Attorney Harold Se said murder charges are expected against Carl Helwig 23 Gilbert Helwig 28 and John Faught 21 who were with Carl during the attempted hold up. Fingerprints were taken and the recovered gun will be tested by the State Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
