Jailed Voorhees protesters mark campus seizure ends

Armed protesters at Voorhees College in Denmark South Carolina were arrested after leaving the administration and science buildings they had seized. National Guardsmen and state troopers arrested 25 people, with bond set from 1500 to 3500 dollars. President Nixon urged colleges to resist violence while maintaining free education and urged administrators to stand firm.

State Hospitals Normal For Union Mourning Day

State hospitals across Ohio operated normally on the mourning day called by Council 21 AFSCME many workers. Goldwater Jr a 30 year old bachelor stockbroker won a seat in Congress with 57 percent of the vote 64 675 to 48 933 in a special election to replace Ed Reinecke in California The victory came after a celebration honoring his parents and their values in public service.

Absenteeism Below Normal At Ohio Prisons After Picket Lines End

Nearly normal work forces were reported at two struck prisons with absenteeism below normal at five others. Ohio State Prison in Columbus had 122 guards at 160 required and Mansfield Reformatory reported 100 of 130. National Guard force reduced from about 280 to around 190 as lines were cleared and judges issued a restraining order. Public safety measures continued with 90 guards remaining at the penitentiary pending custodian return and court action continuing on the strike.
