In London on April 30 Premier Baldwin met his cabinet in the House of Commons to seek a last minute peaceful settlement as seven hours remained to avert a coal strike and lockout. Sir Austen Chamberlain warned the situation was very serious amid crowded lobbies and grave sentiment.
A 12 member panel was formed after extensive questioning of 76 jurors for the first degree murder case of Richard Rhodes. William H Turner, former mine superintendent, sentenced to life for murder and an $89,000 life insurance fraud. He has not escaped the electric chair, officials say, as he awaits separate murder charges against him for killing Henry Wilson and for the joint murder charge tied to Turner’s alleged deception.

Columbus April 30 Governor Vic Donahey directed C. H. Sisson special investigator to conduct a complete inquiry into the March 10 disappearance of Clark C. Baker Mansfield dance hall proprietor who has been missing since that date.
W. Bush, editor and publisher of the Athens Messenger, was chosen as a director of the American Newspaper Association at a national New York meeting. He is the sole representative from Athens among the officers and directors, which include leaders from Richmond, Buffalo, Cleveland, New York, Savannah, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Boston, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and more. The ANA is described as the leading federation of editors and publishers in the United States.
