Remains of Col Benton were moved from Col Brant's residence to the Mercantile Library Hall draped in mourning then to Second Presbyterian Church for services by Rev Cowan with Rev Anderson and Rev Brooks. A vast procession followed to Bellefontaine Cemetery including military units judges city officials benevolent societies and thousands of mourners. McDowell Jones Benton's grandson's body was also transported to the tomb.
