Electricity Helps Halt Smoke Habit

Denver report describes a pocket-size electronic cigarette case developed at a Coral Gables VA Hospital that delivers a shock when a smoker reaches for a cigarette. Dr Malcolm Kushner says the shock creates a conditioned aversion, with pilot tests showing five of 20 quitting for 16 to 21 months and nine reducing usage. The device was presented at a VA cooperative studies conference.
