Athens City Building Keeps Pace Amid Restrictions
Athens lumber dealers report residential construction lagging due to national material shortages despite CPA restrictions. Several commercial projects such as the Altaman Store addition on Court Street and a Shouse filling station on East State Street proceed under prior orders, with demand backed by backlogs and a booming black market in the South and West. Local manager J B Roberts cites limited native lumber lengths and diversion of materials to homes, urging builders to apply to the Federal Housing Administration in Columbus for priority.
