Marietta Lays Out 100: Workers, Default On U.S. Pact
About 100 Marietta Manufacturing Co workers were laid off after a Maritime Administration examiner ruled the yard defaulted on a contract to build two hydrographic survey ships for the Coast and Geodetic Survey. The decision upheld a 90 day extension limit and cited failures to prosecute work, maintain finances, and keep manpower despite a 1964 labor dispute. Attorneys have 10 days to file exceptions before the case goes to Maritime Administrator Nicholas Johnson. Civilian repair work continues with about 150 workers remaining on site.
