Mrs. Monroe Rapport coordinated a senior Progressive Study Club gathering at Miss Helen Dennis’s home. Students sang in a chorus and performed solos including The Riff Song and Down By the Station, with a baritone Emerald and a Novelette clarinet solo.
Mr and Mrs E S Bingman of 25 Cherry street hosted a dinner for Mrs Bingmans mother Mrs D R Stewart and Mr and Mrs James Acker of Nelsonville plus aunt Mrs Charles Thompson of Cincinnati. Mrs Eugene Jones and daughter Karen attended as afternoon guests.
The Willing Workers Class Circle No 1 of the Methodist Sunday School met in the church social rooms with 18 members present and four guests. Mrs Etta Leadbetter led the meeting. Readings were given by Mrs Clara Golding Mrs Ina Morgan Mrs C A Bingman and Mrs Edna Embrey. A Bible quiz was conducted by Mrs Esta Gardner. Refreshments were served by the social committee Mrs Gardner Mrs Embrey and Mrs Rankin. Local attendees included Mrs Mildred White Marta Mrs Thomas Williams Sr Mrs Ina Morgan and William Leadbetter.
A policeman's dance will be held in the high school gymnasium on Friday night from 8 30 to midnight. Ralph McDaniel's orchestra will provide the music and proceeds will benefit the police department.
Mr and Mrs W A Ogdin and Mrs Belle Caster hosted guests including Mr and Mrs Joe Bedinger and Miss Annie Sharp from Charleston. Mr and Mrs Ney Carpenter returned from Strasburg after visiting Sidney Parker Martha Quivey and Albert. Mrs Clyde Walker visited her parents Dale Dye. Miss Margaret Gillogly a Athens was weekend guest and attended a senior play at Columbia School. Mr and Mrs Mendal Jordan and children were guests of his mother Faye Jordan. Mrs Janie Dailey spent the weekend with granddaughter T M Galaway. Wilma and Carolyn Woodrum of Albany visited grandparents T M Galaway. Mrs Westina Crabtree.
Mrs William Tedrow named chairman of the cancer drive for Monroe Township. Youth Fellowship of the Methodist Church will canvass the town visiting homes and organizations. Mrs Bertha Ferguson and Mrs Grace Rocks will solicit business places.
Rainfall of about a half inch along with light showers over the prior days stopped most plowing in the community. Two or three days of sun are needed to reduce soil moisture for resumption. A few gardens have been started. growing weather has been limited. Temperatures ranged around 60 by day and fell to 50 at night.
Mrs J W Herrold of Trimble visited Columbus Tuesday spending the day with Mrs C H Bryson. Mrs B H Pettit of Trimble stayed in Columbus a few days as guest of cousins Bert Sivis and Mrs Blincoe. Mr and Mrs Walter Ansen of Toledo visited Trimble for the weekend with Miss Hazel Raber and Mr and Mrs Harold Morrison. Mr and Mrs C A Bingman spent the weekend in Worthington visiting their son and daughter in law Gail Bingman. The Rev W H Mathias conducted funeral services at the EUB Church Hollister for Minnie Cooper who died Sunday morning with W W Wallace and C F Wallace singing. Burial followed in Hollister Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Helyer traveled to Columbus Saturday where he, previously ill, consulted a medical specialist for an examination. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Helyer and their son Butch for the trip.
