Athens Board approves sewer system modernization plan
The Athens Board of Trade planning panel approved a $875000 modernization of the 58 year old sanitary sewer system with a recommendation for immediate favorable consideration by the city council. The project includes a disposal plant near the Rardin plant and a large trunk sewer line with funds from mortgage revenue bonds and a $1.50 monthly charge for a four person family.

Three Athens Officials Honored at Ohio Independent Telephone Meet
Three members of the Athens Home Telephone Co were honored at the Ohio Independent Telephone Association convention in Columbus. Rolland Jones was elected to a three year board term, while Dr. C L Jones and Dr Andrew Holmes Albany president received 50 years of service awards. Dr Holmes could not attend. Also cited for 50 years service was Ralph Hamilton of Jackson.

U S Ranger Receives Merit Certificate in Athens
U S Ranger James R. Seward was awarded the Department of Agriculture Certificate of Merit at a Berry Hotel ceremony. Supervisor Rudolph H. Grabow praised Seward for reclaiming and administering strip mining lands and securing mine operator cooperation. He joined the Forestry Service in 1933 and has served in Athens since 1941.

Bernice Whaley of Glouster sues Bernice Skinner of Jacksonville in common pleas court seeking 6803.39 for injuries and lost wages from a crash north of Millfield that sent five women to the hospital. Skinner, driver of the car, allegedly sped on a slippery curve and tried to pass another vehicle April 30, 1949. she escaped injury.
