War veteran Townsend dies at ripe age in Downington
Downington April 26. William F Townsend a Civil War drummer boy who enlisted at 14 died last night. He served in Co C 30th O V I and survived to see only two members remain Captain J B Allen Athens and Zenas A Hull now in the Soldiers Home at Sandusky. Funeral at 1 pm Friday at the Baptist church with Rev Selah Weatherby. Burial in Wells Cemetery. Townsend was a lifelong farmer and former Downington postmaster. Survived by two daughters Mrs Otto Graves and Maggie Townsend, son Gath Townsend, grandchildren, sister Mrs Elizabeth Perry of California, and brother Nate Townsend of Guysville.

Two Boys Injured as Tractor Tumbles with Household Wagon
Earl Petty aged 19 and Eugene Petty aged 16 were trapped when a tractor to which a wagon loaded with household goods overturned on the Harrisonville pike near the infirmary.
