Charleston April 26 Federal Judge George W McKinlie issued the most drastic injunction yet against the United Mine Workers in the Winding Gulf district. Attorneys say the order effectively checks organizing efforts and cites a conspiracy within a conspiracy between miners and operators across Ohio Indiana Illinois and Western Pennsylvania to curb coal production in West Virginia. The Alpha Pocahontas Coal Company and others brought the case with UMW defendants. The injunction remains in effect until further order.

In Point Pleasant Ohio on April 26 a manhunt began after John Eldridge shot and seriously wounded landlord J M Thatcher who had come to evict him. Eldridge fled into the hills as authorities including Fort Thomas commander Colonel Petey Traub and Cincinnati police chief William Copelaw organized a posse ahead of President Harding's grant centennial address.
