Athens May Get Housing Funds Under New Federal Plan

A Nixon administration proposal could grant Athens $75,000 a year for community development as part of the Better Communities Act. The plan, linked to $2.3 billion for Ohio, would replace dried up HUD funds and start July 1 1974 with federal revenue sharing for local programs. Mayors say no official word on specific uses. Athens had sought $40,000 to plan a 100 unit elderly housing project, with some share possibly for that effort. Marietta would receive identical funding. Ohio would also allocate $10.3 million more to communities.
