Presbytery plans area tree seed planting drive in SE Ohio
The Presbytery of Athens votes to sponsor native tree seed planting on unused land across six counties. Youth groups from churches, Boy Scouts, 4-H, and others will spread seed from tulip trees to oaks with efforts centered at Union Furnace and Hebbardsville. The project aims to restore forests, reduce wildlife hazards, and promote conservation over years.

The Nelsonville Public Library book truck serving county branches will be off line about one week. A new chassis has been secured and the existing body will be installed, restoring the vehicle to its regular schedule as soon as possible.

Man Fined In Taxi Fraud Case In Nelsonville
NELSONVILLE charged with defrauding a taxicab in an affidavit filed by Clinton Smart of Tubby's Cab Co in the court of Mayor Oral Daugherty Harry Davis Morristown pleaded guilty on arraignment Friday. He was assessed the defaulted bill of 3.50 and fined 10 and costs for 18.60 total 22.10. Davis was committed to the Athens County jail pending settlement.

Barney Hamill, 76, a retired coal miner from Carbon Hill, died Friday evening after a long illness. Funeral services are set for Monday at 2 p.m. at Carbon Hill Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Carbon Hill.
