Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Feeney Bennett Post meet Monday evening in Woodman Hall. Children will present the program. Mrs Charles Swindler is chairman for the Mother Daughter program and social evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Tru man Russell announce the birth of a son April 22 at their Wright Street home. He is named Truman Reed. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Milton Russell of Bradbury and Herbert Spencer of Gallipolis. The couple also has a four year old daughter Anita Sue.
Miss Mary Root, a local primary teacher in Middleport, received a postcard with a Messenger clipping about an Easter basket for a sick child instead of an Easter party. The card, signed by Guy B. Findley of Elyria, who is a candidate for Ohio Supreme Court judge, is unknown to her.
Ruth McCurdy was guest of honor at a Scout Camp Chester party hosted by James Lochary. Thirty high schoolers attended with chaperons including Mrs. A R Knight and several Mr. and Mrs. pairs. The McCurdys faced moves abroad and hospital news tied to local families Susan Jo Hite moved from Children’s Hospital to General Hospital in Cincinnati for treatment.
Mrs. Dor Schaefer hosted Mrs. McCurdy and her daughter, and Mrs. Patrick Lochary at a Friday luncheon. A child diagnosed with measles will be taken to Children's Hospital later for observation and treatment.
At the Presbytery of Athens meeting in the Alexander Church near Albany Dr Homer G McMillen was re elected stated clerk of the Presbytery of Athens. J H Grate was named chairman of the Historical Society and Edgar Ervin joined the Judicial Committee. Terms are three years. The presbytery planned meetings and Synod delegates for Wooster and Seattle with several ministers and lay members appointed.
The Middleport Legion Club Auxiliary served fried chicken to members of the auxiliary and Feeney Bennett Post American Legion during a Wednesday evening gathering.
Entries at the Meigs County recorder's office show vigorous real estate activity from March 1 to April 20 with 173 property transfers and 32 leases. mortgage totals include 64 mortgages and 66 releases, 18 lease releases, and 40 veterans discharges among other records. farm land mortgages total $63,013 and city lot mortgages $28,867 over the 51 day period.
Thirty eight per cent of Pomeroy Senior High School students earned honor roll distinction for the fifth six week grading period. Girls led with 51.1 percent. boys at 26.6 percent. Seniors 42.6 percent, sophomores 37.5 percent, juniors 34.8 percent. Names listed for each class include Adrian Drenner and Dorothy Bolinger among seniors. Donald Betzing and Joan Conway among juniors. Ronald Bagley and Bobby Barnitz among sophomores.
The Past Counselors of Theodorus Counsel of D A will gather Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Addie Grueser with Mrs. Lucille Beards assisting as hostess.
