Harry M. Walden won Athens County Democratic Executive Committee endorsement for Coolville postmaster at a Wednesday meeting. The 1934 and 1992 endorsements are reaffirmed. Walden previously served eight years as postmaster and was Coolville mayor. The committee will send the endorsement to Senators Bulkley and Donahey.
President Roosevelt will address the nation Sunday night over radio to outline his four billion dollar work relief program and report on his stewardship. Hopkins and Walker likely share responsibility, with a new allotment board to be announced Thursday night. The president is expected to head the drive and speak at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for half an hour.
Grover W. Fleming publisher of The Ohio Examiner pleaded not guilty in municipal court to circulating obscene literature. He was released on 2.80 bond by Athens County authorities on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was returned to jail pending his lawyer’s arrival. he asked time to plead later on waving examination.
Charles Shepard, a 39 year old electrician and father of three, was notified he would work on a PWA Street project in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. Moments later he suffered a heart attack and died.
William Snyder editor of the Ohio Examiner plans to plead not guilty at arraignment in Common Pleas Court after being indicted by the Athens County Grand Jury on seven counts of publishing obscene literature. About 20 others were indicted and scheduled for arraignment in the afternoon.
Ex lieutenant commander William Comerford, 47, who has been widowed twice and divorced eleven times, plans his fifteenth wedding next June in New York. Ernestine Smith, 23, daughter of a Java planter, is cited as his fifteenth bride.
Western mining leaders predicted a silver boom after Roosevelt boosted the Treasury price for new domestic ore. Some warned prices must rise further or promise stability to avoid a collapse. Howard Pierson, 19, confessed after nine hours of questioning to killing his mother and father on a rural road near Austin Texas. John Gillogly aged 77 of Albany died Wednesday night in University Hospital Columbus from pneumonia after an operation. He lived in Albany four years after moving from Point Rock. He leaves a wife, a son Crapville and a daughter Mrs A D Cline both of Albany. Funeral services Saturday at 2 PM at the home conducted by Rev Harry Bolton of Rutland with burial in Temple Church Cemetery.
Samuel L. Kuhn, executive secretary for the tobacco Code Authority, said that current domestic leaf tobacco prices for cigars have reached the 1919-29 parity, with Ohio, Pennsylvania and Connecticut highlighted. He noted the price recovery has improved growers' position without raising the retail unit price for cigars.
