Sixteen trunks of Cleveland Indians uniforms and playing gear were left in Pittsburgh in May due to a railroad car switch error. The misrouted equipment was cut from a train bound for Detroit where the Indians were to face the Tigers. Efforts were under way to air the missing gear to the team.
Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co plans to recall about 30 workers Sunday when it resumes production after a shutdown March 2 at its automobile and window glass plant in Mount Vernon Ohio.
Ras Reynolds, an embattled banker facing embezzlement charges and a court-ordered property seizure, watched his personal assets go under the hammer as about 1500 bidders bought his brick home, 50 lots, two autos, and more for 5021. Reynolds, once missing 12 days, pledged to repay creditors with help from relatives while facing trial slated for summer.
The Soviet Union again demanded a Geneva conference expanded to a Big Five meeting with Communist China granted equal status to the United States Britain France and the USSR. Western powers rejected the idea, noting the Moscow note restates prior positions and does not delay the Geneva talks opening Monday.
Cleveland treasury apartment agents arrested Sam Paliafica 43 manager of a downtown night club on narcotics charges. U S Commissioner H A Horn set bail at 20000. Paliafica was picked up yesterday at his Cleveland Heights home and charged with selling two ounces of heroin on October 22.
Secretary of the Army Stevens testified before a Senate committee that Senator McCarthy urged naming G. David Schine as a special assistant to hunt communists in the Army. Stevens said he ordered a loyalty and security review and that changes followed, with Stevens meeting McCarthy officially on September 3 and again in New York on September 16.
President Eisenhower compared communist aims to Adolf Hitler and urged a worldwide cooperative peace. He spoke at a dinner of the American Newspaper Publishers Association urging unity at home and abroad while police guarded his New York to Waldorf Astoria route amid threats to public officials. He outlined the choice between generative peace and coercive domination and urged the press to emphasize unity.
A weekly publisher, Ralph Shupe of America at Yellow Springs, says officials at Antioch College pressured advertisers to withdraw support after his probe into communist activities. College VP W Boyd Alexander denied the charges. In May 1952 Antioch president Douglas McGregor testified before the Ohio House Un-American Activities Commission that Antioch is not communist.

Former Lt. Gov. Paul M. Herbert endorsed William Saxbe as the Republican candidate for the U. S. Senate. Saxbe faces Rep. George H. Bender of Cleveland in the race, with Marietta at center of a separate fatal crash report.
Off duty Patrolman Francis Fleming, hearing gunfire near his home, shot and killed a bandit identified as I. I. BR. Damnick of Dayton who had robbed the Nacth Akron Savings Association of 3750. Fleming fired after the bandit fired at a pistol empty officer. Patrolman Anthony Mick and Gaylord Nolan helped pursue and cornered the suspect eight blocks away. The bandit died at a hospital shortly after.
The National Labor Relations Board ruled that the Mendow Co R E M Division in Lancaster could form a separate bargaining unit if they choose. Unions seeking to represent plant employees include United Steelworkers of America ICI International Assn of Machinists AFI and Local 1080 IBEW.
The government reports lower food and clothing prices, bringing the nation's living costs down in March for a second straight month to the lowest point since July. The Bureau of Labor Statistics index fell two tenths of one percent to 114.8 percent of the 1947-49 average.
A common pleas judge ruled that teachers may use reasonable force to maintain order. He sentenced a 16 year old to the Boys Industrial School at Lancaster for striking a Glenville High School instructor after a disturbance in a classroom, the youth shoved the teacher in the hallway.
Washington report on yesterday's Senate hearing where McCarthy aides and Stevens clashed over alleged improper actions to win favors for Pvt. G. David Schine. Stevens testified to numerous calls and favors sought, while McCarthy denied improper means and asserted testimony was false.
A fireworks company plant explosion in Dayton Ohio killed three women and injured a fourth yesterday afternoon. Victims were Estella Newell 24, Fannie Ruth Russell 32, and Arther Williams. injured was Janelle Coleman 38. Owner suspects smoking may have caused the fire.

A Fox Movie Studios produced film replying to Edward R Murrow's criticism of Senator Joseph McCarthy was sent to McCarthy's Washington offices at his request via Ray Monroney chief counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Production began after Murrow invited a rebuttal, with estimates of the cost ranging from six million to more than seven million dollars.
Ohio Virginia youth leaders convene for the third annual high school legislature, handling 50 proposed bills and electing a governor and officers. High school Hi Y and Tri-Prey clubs participate under the Ohio Virginia Area Council MCA. Gov Julia W Brown was to preside at the opening session.

FBI figures show murders and burglaries fell in Ohio cities last year while assaults and other crimes rose. Across 249 urban areas with about 4.63 million people, criminal assault climbed to 3,360, robbery to 2,360, aggravated assault to 2,300, larceny theft to 43,965 and motor vehicle theft to 6,100. Also noted, Minneapolis settlement and Ohio parks open May 1.
South Haven businesses report radioactive dust falling on a southwest Michigan city last Sunday. A local industrialist, in a car in the area, scraped a fine red ash from the top of his car and tested it with a Geiger counter, noting a definite reaction.
