Parents Lose in Guidance Of Children Scout Leader Tells City Business Men
Charles E. Wood of the Boy Scouts of America told Athens Rotary and Kiwanis clubs that parents are too lax guiding their children and leave advice to teachers who lack time. He noted 400000 volunteers support scouting with only 600 paid directors and urged business leaders to provide youth vocation guidance. He described scouting as a supplemental home program and cited mining towns in West Virginia Tennessee Kentucky and Ohio showing cultural progress. He said scouts teach hard knocks through merit badges and praised community support from a Kiwanis prize winner.
