Third try at Athens County charter seeks ballot署
The XALIST group behind two failed attempts aims to place a home rule charter on the November ballot by circulating petitions starting Monday. If adopted, the charter would empower county commissioners to enact ordinances and create an Executive Council with veto power, while prohibiting fracking waste disposal and water use for fracking under the Community Bill of Rights. The drive targets about 2,000 signatures, with just under 1,500 required, and petitions are due to the elections board by late June.
