Athens council votes to remove amusement tax and debates water ordinances

Athens City Council by suspension of rules eliminated the amusement tax on theaters. Two water ordinances received second readings addressing tenant signups for city water, tenant payment responsibility, and extending lines to Clear View and Wonder Hills subdivisions. Dissenting votes and concerns from real estate brokers highlighted payment and future supply worries while officials noted adequate water supply and ongoing sewage plant planning. About 18 Athens High School students joined Goverment Week observances at the meeting.
