E. T. Crossen Post 21 members honored past commanders during a Wednesday night gathering. A magician entertained then Alex Blair of Jackson, a former district and department commander, spoke on the Legion's image during its 50th anniversary years.
Committeeman praises the Legion's stance in the community and urges a grassroots campaign to reach college students with the message that freedom requires responsibility and vigilance. A meeting at K. T. Crossen Post featured Merlin the Magician and a dinner by the Auxiliary, with 20 past commanders introduced and notes on the post's 1919 founding.
Navy oceanographer Lt Cmdr J A Baldwin will discuss underwater research and show two films at 8 p m in Baker Center Room 204 during Ohio University Career Symposium. Alumni guests include John Hostatler George Voinovich and Eugene Rinta as part of guest in residence activities. The symposium runs through Saturday with more than 40 career experts visiting campus. The final line notes Japan leads in shipbuilding, launching about half of annual new vessels.
Ohio University students in Cen trex dorms will be able to place long distance telephone calls starting June 17. The service, arranged with General Telephone Co., allows credit card and collect calls, announced by Timothy M. Thomas, director of communications.
Former Ohio University ROTC instructor Sgt Maj Charles R Castleman returned home after service in Korea and Vietnam with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. He later served as US Army Reserve Advisor in Tuscaloosa Alabama. He and his wife have three children including Linda born in Athens. A small claims suit for 127 dollars was filed in Athens County Municipal Court against Dudley Bumpass.
