New coal washery planned for Nelsonville aims June startup
In Nelsonville on April 16 a company organized to establish a large coal washery, expected to start by June. It would be the second in Ohio and the largest in the United States, costing about 55000 and producing 2000 tons daily with twenty workers. The plant will clean low grade Heckine Valley coal to near lump quality, expanding market for Hocking Valley steam coal.

Man Dies From Shock After Fire Scare at Court Street Home
James Bellman, about eighty, was found dead on the floor of his Court Street home shortly after noon Monday. Clothing and nightgown were burned. doctors say death came from the shock and exertion of rising, not fire. He leaves a prostrated wife and three daughters, services held at the Methodist church, Green Lawn cemetery interment.
