A fire Saturday destroyed the Dale Teaford grain elevator in Greenville and caused about $35,000 in damage. The plant housed 15,000 bushels of corn, wheat, oats, and mixed feed.
A vast air offensive pounded Tokyo with 400 B 29 Superfortresses. Ground forces pressed on Okinawa and in the Philippines as Japanese defenses faltered. MacArthur announced damaging or destroying dozens of ships. Nipponese counterattacks were repelled by American artillery and infantry.
Hyde Park mourners including cabinet officers and foreign leaders gathered for simple burial rites for Franklin D Roosevelt. The four term president was laid to rest behind his family estate amid a tranquil Hudson Valley setting. The service featured a 15 second interval gun salute and floral tributes as the casket was lowered into the burial vault. Mrs Roosevelt, alone, viewed the casket before departing.
Gen. Mark W. Clark announced a spring offensive in the Mediterranean theater as U S Fifth Army and British Eighth Army launch operations along the Italian battlefront. The Fifth attacked the ten dral and western sectors after 1233 heavy bombers struck targets south of Bologna. The Eighth Army's week-old push suggests heavy fighting ahead to breach mountains south of Bologna into the Po Valley. Carl H. Berlin broadcasts claimed a wider assault with a bridgehead across the Oder near Schwedt, 30 miles south of Stettin and 44 miles northeast of Berlin, while American forces held at Seehausen on the Elbe. No confirmation from Moscow and AP noted no push toward Berlin had begun as of 6:45 a.m. Moscow time.

Pfc. John Millward of Portsmouth and Sgt. F. J. Harris of Houston Tex. helped capture two German colonels as Seventh Army Third Division advance units closed to 13 miles from Nuernberg, Germany.

Dr Robert C Farbell, a nationally known psychiatrist, died unexpectedly yesterday at Grant Hospital where he had been admitted for a check up last week. He was 74. The Columbus physician was widely respected for his work in mental health and served on several medical boards.
