Athens Council Seeks Fire Hazard Survey Upgrades
Council ordered a no cost survey by the Ohio Inspection Bureau to cost out improvements to water mains and fire equipment. The report urged longer fire truck pumps, more ladders, regular drills, better station egress, and a larger transmission line to lower insurance rates. A fire marshal enforcement gap was noted and a joint effort with Athens Township was proposed. A driver escaped a locomotive collision when his stalled truck was struck.
