Washington spies and Polly Day gingerbread secret

In 1781 a northbound mail stage carries Washingtons courier and two strangers as passengers. Polly Day at the River tavern hides a private packet for Captain John Day while a redheaded spy named Crane stalks the mission. A series of tampered gingerbread, coded notes, and swift travels lead to a Boston meeting and a final reveal of Washingtons thanks. The tale blends colonial intrigue with a tavern saga and includes later notes on Pennsylvania Grange meetings and reforms.
