Visit by tomato growers urged to urge capital protest

Gallipolis President Homer W. Walter said a committee of tomato growers may travel to Washington this weekend to protest the post July 15 price ceiling of 2.60 a bushel and the 2.75 per 30 pound lug, as Everett G. Royer contacts leaders in Southeastern and Central Ohio to arrange representation and discuss OPA actions. The effort targets all 10 pound basket areas, noting the current 90 cent basket ceiling is inadequate for ripened tomatoes. Walter also noted the 26 cent a dozen egg price support paid by a WFA buyer could mean about $100,000 annual impact to the Gallipolis area.
