Harold E. Johnson, 24, was killed when a 12 gauge shotgun was fired through a door at the home of Mr and Mrs James Triplett in Fair Play. Henry C Noe, 72, a relative, is jailed on murder charges as the investigation continues.
Kathy Fiscus three years old fell into an abandoned well in San Marino California. After 82 hours of rescue attempts by 50 volunteers and professionals, the child was found wedged 100 feet down and pronounced dead. Her parents expressed gratitude amid widespread grief.
Paul J. Kidwell a 56 year old shoe salesman from Muncie Indiana died in a bed fire at the Hurth Hotel in Portsmouth. Fire Chief Kiebler said smoking might have started the blaze. Sixteen guests on the sixth floor were forced from their rooms by smoke.
U S Attorney General Tom Clark will speak at the Ohio Democratic party annual Jackson- Jefferson Day dinner in Columbus on May 11. He is slated to address party leaders and supporters during the event at Columbus.

The Ohio Senate may decide tonight on a resolution by Sen. Ralph A. Winter to form a 10 member committee to probe rural telephone service adequacy. The bill would require House approval and a companion House bill would cap rural lines at eight subscribers. Washington expects the agriculture department to release at 3 p.m. its latest forecast for this winter wheat crop. The estimate is likely to approach a record, with 1947’s 1,068,000,000 bushels as the high mark and last year at about 990,000,000 bushels.
