Glaucoma Screening Planned By Athens Lions Club
The Athens Lions Club resolved to sponsor a free glaucoma screening in May open to all residents. Targeting those over 35 and individuals with family history, the program aims to detect the leading cause of adult blindness early. Doctors Littler Croci and Paxton promoted the effort at a club dinner with consultant Mrs. Marti Tommons. Cadet David E. Smith represented Ohio University’s Arnold Air Society at the recent national ROTC conclave in Dallas, as a Class of 1972 BA student and 1968 Federal Hocking High School graduate.

Plan Aims Free Literature and Film Glaucoma Screening
Mrs. Timmons emphasizes the screening will be simple and not a full eye exam. Diagnoses will not be made and those flagged will be referred to local eye doctors. About two to three percent of adults over 40 may show glaucoma signs, requiring intensive followup. Possible sites include O'Bleness Memorial Hospital or Athens High School.
