Allied bombers in three moonlit raids near Kavieng New Ireland destroyed or dispersed a Japanese naval concentration of 13 warships and merchantmen. Gen. Douglas MacArthur announced the operation from his headquarters.
Massive Allied air offensives hit Axis targets across Iberian and Mediterranean fronts. American Flying Fortresses bomb Naples supply port and Paris Renault factory while British bombers strike Kiel naval base. Naples tally reports dozens killed and many injured amid widespread raids.
Ohio Selective Service will reduce the March 29 to April 30 induction by 14.2 percent under War Department orders. Seventy seven boards will not provide men from April 26 to 30. The Allied war effort continued with raids and naval actions across the Pacific and near Australia.
The Office of Price Administration could not decide how housewives should handle ration coupons for maids. It said forcing the maid to surrender all coupons to the employer or requiring her to eat without contributing would be unfair.
