COLUMBUS April 5 U R Cloth ed with almost unlimited powers the broadest ever granted an investigating group in this state the special Senate committee named to make an inquiry into the Ohio Liquor Commission was to meet here this afternoon for organization Senator Carl D Sheppard Republican Akron will be named chairman of the committee if customary procedure is followed Sheppard was author of the resolution creating the commission He asked for the investigation because of reports that factional and partisan favoritism has prevailed in selection of personnel in spite of civil service regulations that contracts for purchase of large quantities of liquor have been made at unreasonably high prices and that contracts for leases of stores and warehouses insurance bonds hauling storage have been made at disadvantageous terms to the state and to political and social favorites.
Washington April 5 stock market regulation legislation is on the legislative program this session Speaker Henry T. Rainey said today. He predicted the House may adjourn May 15. He added the bill may be modified from its present form. He said the state legislative outlook is clearing up with two supply bills and probably the Wagner Lewis Unemployment Insurance Bill as the only other vital measures.
CHICAGO April 5 Dry forces swept to victory in five suburban referendum votes to prevent the retail sale of liquor within their limits. By overwhelming majorities the suburbanites chose local option to prevent taverns and saloons along their roads. The voting followed weeks of intensive campaigning by dry groups.

Washington April 5 U P Rep William L Fiesinger of Santusky today expected to introduce in the House amendments to the Agriculture Adjustment Act to restore to Ohio milk producers the power to set resale prices of fluid milk The amendments prepared in cooperation with the Co operative Defense Committee provide that no milk shall be offered for sale or sold in any sales area by any processor distributor or other handler unless the farmer who produced the milk receives at least the net minimum amount established through marketing agreements Under such amendments producers not members of cooperative associations would receive the same benefits as members Charges for services to non members would be the same as those assessed upon members.
POMEROY April 5 Eleven gypsies held in Meigs County Jail were released after spending Tuesday night and part of Wednesday there in connection with the robbery of William Warner. Warner said a gypsy woman took $360 of the $400 he had. The group included a two day old baby and they brought bedding into the jail as they refused to sleep in beds. County officers expect further investigations as more gypsy groups are seen and Warner blamed delayed reporting for enabling thieves to begin their escape.
Lila Vineyard a minor of Long Bottom sues Bert Smith for 5242 damages after an April 1938 accident on the Reedsville Tuppers Plains road near County Highway 5 and State Route 7. The 13 year old suffered a broken left leg and other injuries with medical costs totaling 242.
