In Columbus April 5 miners seek funds to care for the needy while operators inch toward meeting with Washington labor committee and UMWA officials. A leading southern Ohio coal company president said district operators have not altered course despite a congressional invitation to join miners from other districts.
Dublin April 8 The mutineers of the Irish republican army press attacks on free state troops. Officers and men of loyal legions are arrested by rebels. Richard Mulcahy may call citizens to arm for defense. Rebels seize and hide arms and ammunition, especially near ports with British stores. Cork reports large quantities dumped into the sea to avoid seizure.
Portuguese aviators Captains Sacaduro and Coutino chart a four leg Lisbon to Pernambuco route. First leg Lisbon to Canary Islands covers 710 miles, second Canary Islands to Cape Verde 816 miles, third leg Cape Verde to Fernando Noronha 1890 miles, then 278 miles to Pernambuco.
Lieutenant Colonel Paul Ward Beck died in a confrontation at Judge Jean P Day's home after an alleged embrace of Day's wife. Gallagher.
