Yesterday afternoon Henry Carlton fell from a loaded wagon in the Webb & Crawford yards while atop it. He pitched forward onto the paved street, striking his head and causing a gash. Dr Holliday later assessed no skull fracture, though concussion was significant and serious outcomes were deemed unlikely.
In city court yesterday the state charged Otto Lowry and Flem Gunnells with riot near the central depot. After hours of legal fighting the case was sent to a jury which returned a verdict of not guilty after a short deliberation.
Michael Bros promotes ladies ready-to-wear hats suits and fall silks in Athens with low prices and limited quantities. The ad highlights 5000 yards of dress silks at 49 cents, 27 inch taffeta at 1.00 a yard, and black taffeta silk at 1.00 a yard. After a two week vacation, he expects the committee to complete the acquisition to allow immediate start.
Yesterday Officer Evans arrested William Green, a Black man, on a state warrant for stealing money from Mr. Luke Verner at the fair grounds. Verner reported the loss and noted officers had long watched for him. Green faces trial before Judge Cobb as the city court session opens.
Mr D F Mille of Deadwyler Company cotton factors announces candidacy for alderman in Athens second ward. Described as a top local businessman with many supporters who will back his race. He pledges full energy to win and to devote efforts through the campaign.

More than three hundred students are on campus, and attendance is expected to reach about four hundred fifty.
