With low turnout Clarke County narrowly rejects the county unit plan for schools by 356 to 343, a 13 vote margin, as only 699 votes are cast. City district shows stronger opposition than expected though the city backed the plan overall. Rural districts’ misapprehensions and overall apathy doomed the measure requiring 466 yes votes to pass.
The case against Pink Hillard, charged with highway robbery in Madison County, is postponed to next Monday due to a witness illness and Judge G C Thomas's cold. Jail cases proceed, while John Earle and Silas McAlvin face burglary indictments for stealing pistols, clothing, and jewelry from downtown stores.
Athens residents T J Scott W S Brand Bell John D Moss T P Vincent and Howell C Erwin petition the Superior Court for incorporation of the Georgia Railroad Terminal Company. The plan asks a 101 year charter with renewal options, a 1500 foot belt line from the Georgia Railroad terminus to a point on the Augusta road, with capital stock of twenty five thousand and headquarters in Augusta.

The city league opened last night with two games. In the first, the Ags led by Liddell defeated the Lawyers led by Pina 23 to 12, with notable defense from Liddell and strong work by Pina and Rubenstein. The Seniors, led by Johnson, beat Brand's team 23 to 8, Johnson scoring 13 of his team's points aided by Lester's guarding. Next games set for Monday at 8 o'clock, How ell Peacock refing, admission free.
New firm named Utilities Improvement Co organized with total capitalization of 40 million dollars. It plans 25 million in 6 percent cumulative preferred and 15 million in common stock, with 10 million outstanding immediately. Half of the 10 million offering is taken by London interests tied to earlier purchases in Cities Service and Consolidated Cities Light Power & Traction. The 1913-15 projections show rising earnings on common stock, with initial 2 percent dividends, stepping up to 6 percent by 1915, amid prior Doherty and Co. offerings across multiple utilities and rail ventures.
Howe's Great London shows will exhibit in Athens on Wednesday October 23 for two performances. Col Howe a veteran showman promises a high quality tent show with clowns trained animals riders and a grand street parade at ten. The show is expected to winter in Athens with arrangements underway to provide quarters and boost local spending during the stay.
A committee of the chamber of commerce will canvass Savannah merchants to decorate their shops for the Georgia division’s Daughters of the Confederacy convention. Merchants agreeing to participate will be listed in the Banner. The effort follows broad support from local business leaders.
Boston Red Sox win the world championship after a 3-2 ten inning victory over the New York Giants in Game seven. Mathewson pitched strongly for New York against Bedient, but Boston staged a tenth inning rally with Engle, Yerkes, Speaker, and Gardner contributing to the decisive run.

A three months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Hal R Short died at home in Augusta and was brought to this city for burial yesterday. The funeral followed the arrival of the Georgia Railroad train just after noon.
