Early yesterday morning the county tax collector Hal Linton III nearly died at his home after taking Laxative Bromo Quinine for a severe cold. He fell and cut his forehead, fainting until Dr. Carlton treated him. the medicine’s effects caused the accident and his condition improved by yesterday.
Yesterday in City Court Eugene Smith colored pleaded guilty to disturbing divine worship at a church near Winterville. Judge Cold fined him forty dollars. the note says the fine was unpaid and Smith will go on the gang.
An aged testimonial recounts a man whose nerves and stomach improved after quitting coffee and switching to Postum Cereal Coffee. He claims better digestion and appetite, credits the product for his recovery, and notes preparation details and the included book offer from Postum Co. of Battle Creek, Michigan.

Judge Howell Cobb presided a special City Court session fining Clary fifty dollars and coats for stealing a pistol from another black man on Dr. W. A. Carlton's farm. The pistol was returned and police quickly captured the offender. The case concluded with conviction.

Clarke county jail inmate Burkhart, described as white and in nervous distress, nearly died midnight Thursday. Sheriff Wier found him in a desperate condition and gave whiskey to stimulate his heart. He improved briefly but remains very weak and may not survive until his trial next month. he was released on a small bond yesterday afternoon due to his fragile condition.
The city’s next attraction is the musical comedy When Reuben Comes to Town to be staged Tuesday night. The production is praised as elaborate with magnificent scenery and costumes and a top notch company touring the country. A large turnout from the Troup Artillery Cobb-Delaney camp and other veterans gathered at City Hall and Seaboard Depot to honor Richard Gaye Saye. The procession to Oconee Cemetery included six veterans bearing the casket while Rev Ellison D. Stone led prayers hymns and readings at the grave.
The Oconee Oil and Fertilizer Co plans a new building on Oconee street to be finished within ten days. The expansion will add space for machinery and a new fertilizer department to meet rising demand. An advertisement promotes Dr E Detchon’s Anti Diuretic priced at one dollar, sold by H R Palmer & Sons in Athens GA.
The Hodgson Cotton Company completes a one hundred thousand dollar fertilizer plant and prepares to begin operation this morning. The facility will produce sulphuric acid and ranks among the largest in the state and south, with many residents likely to visit. Start up is probable within the next two or three days.

Yesterday afternoon a small kitchen fire at Mr. W. B. Lawhead's Pope Street home called out the fire department. The crew arrived rapidly despite rough streets and extinguished the blaze with no appreciable damage. An unrelated note advertises Bucklen's Arnica Salve.
Yesterday Judge Foster bound O W Cooper and H T Summers over on riot charges after a preliminary trial. The case centers on Cooper authority at the horseswappers convention near the fair grounds during fair week. A racial confrontation with a negro named Williams led to claims of rocks and a buggy whip. both defendants deny the allegations.
Athens residents prepare for harness and running races at the fair grounds on Monday at two o clock. Purses are fifty dollars per harness race with admissions twenty five cents and free buggies and grandstand. Races feature owners and drivers including Welch Hinton Jago Falklove and Johnson with notes of multiple heats.
