Three key meetings were held to perfect plans for a city wide canvass in support of the second issue of United States Liberty Loan Bonds. County committee leaders from Clarke County organized district canvassing teams for three days next week with thirty two workers to cover the county.
The Treasury estimates second Liberty Loan subscriptions top $800 million, sixteen percent of the five billion goal, with Atlanta at nine million and New York district still behind its billion target. Ten days remain to raise $420 million daily, boosted by a National Bank of Commerce subscription and renewed drive. Local campaign leaders organize formal committees, with business men split into Reds and Whites, while daily luncheons aid canvassing and fundraising.
Washington October 15 Secretary Baker indicated a decision on the examination and classification of all remaining men registered under the draft law might be reached within a few days. He is weighing proposed changes to the examination process and still believes ages nineteen to twenty six are proper for military service, though he considers an amendment to the laws.

New York Oct 15 The consolidation of all Bethlehem Steel owned shipbuilding yards into a new corporation named the Bethlehem Ship Building Corporation Limited was announced to coordinate and expedite work amid rising government demand for ships.
The Pandora editors meet to select A. Bussy of Waverly Hall and A. H. Stevens of Carlton as business managers for the 1918 Pandora. The staff includes Mack Matthews as editor in chief with Alfred Black and J. R. Bowden as associate editors and C. W. Slack as art editor.
Vicksburg Miss Oct 15 four thousand veterans of the War Between the States gather at Vicksburg National Military Park for the Blue and Grey memorial reunion opening Wednesday. Jones Little Pie Sausage and Arnold and Abney advertise the event with simple marketing notes.

A Sunday afternoon blaze discovered by a passerby at box sixteen burned a Hardeman and Phinizy warehouse containing about fifty thousand dollars worth of cotton. Washington Oct 15 Western railroads plan to join eastern lines in pressing the Interstate Commerce Commission for higher rates on many commodities and possibly a general rate rise. Despite rising net revenues, Southern railroads may also join, arguing profits are too low for needed improvements.
Washington Oct. 16 Geo F. Moore Sovereign Grand Commander reported at the Supreme Council session a conference with Secretary Baker about excluding fraternal organizations from camps. He said Baker has no intent to injure or disrespect any groups and urged not to hinder the government as it presses the war machine.
