Washington reports Germany’s surrender terms as virtually total. Crowds erupt in New York and London as King Friedrich August III is dethroned and German revolution spreads. Leaders praise armistice while awaiting final peace framework and aid for central powers.
President informs Congress on German acceptance of armistice terms. Key points include six hour ceasefire, immediate evacuation of Belgium France Alsace Lorraine and Luxembourg within fourteen days, complete repatriation within fourteen days, surrender of heavy weapons and materiel, and Allied control of left bank Rhine territories with strict prohibitions on destruction. Repatriation and occupancy details follow, with notes on railways, locomotives, wagons, and military stores to be delivered.
Washington outlines wartime draft cancellations and mass repatriation as peace terms on armistice. Provisions include stopping 252,000 recruits over five days, turning back drafted men, and releasing over 300,000 November calls. Submarine and warship disarmament terms follow with Allied supervision.
World wide peace was celebrated in Athens with bells, horns, and a large parade. University soldiers, Mayor Erwin, and Dr. A G Richards led a citywide observance as the Banner issued extras announcing the armistice and Kaiser abdication, with broad public cheers and prayers.
The campaign for seven welfare agencies opened at the Y M C A with workers pledging 9 671 050 toward a 25 000 target and 50 oversubscription. Victory Girls and Victory Boys led early giving with 268 50 from 47 pledges as organizers press for support and study. London reports armistice terms set for prisoner repatriation at the peace conference.
